35 weeks !

 35 weeks side
 35 weeks front

In my last blog post I said that I had a Dr's appointment on Monday....well it was actually Tuesday.  We showed up on Monday morning for our appointment and they told me I was actually a day early....so we showed up again on Tuesday to try it all over again. This was my first confirmed event of pregnancy brain.

On Tuesday, the day of our actual appointments we showed up at 10am for our growth ultra sound.  Cami's growth was great at 5lbs 8oz.  She was moving the whole time of the ultra sound and we even were able to see her 'practice breathing.'

At 10:30 we moved across the hall from our ultrasound to have our 10 minute stress test done to make sure there were not effects of the marginal cord insertion and that she was active and moving as much as she should be.  The stress test was very easy, I had to sit there with two circular monitors strapped to my stomach.  10 minutes into the test the Nurse Practitoner came in and said that we were going to keep the monitor on another 20 minutes as the monitor was picking up that I was having contractions every 8 minutes.
From the stress test we moved down the hall for our 11am appointment with the Dr. The Dr. came in and asked how long the contractions had been going on.  I said on and off for 2-3 days but nothing was painful so I wasn't concerned.  She checked to see if my cervix was dilated (cervix was softened but not dilated) and performed a swab test "you know where" to look for fetal fibronectin since I was having contractions.

From the Internet: Fetal fibronectin "leaks" into the vagina if a preterm delivery is likely to occur and can be measured in a diagnostic test. When the fFN test is positive, it is an inconclusive result. A positive result can indicate that a woman will go into preterm labor soon, but she may not go into labor for weeks. When the fFN test is negative, the result is a better predictor. A negative result means that there is little possibility of preterm labour within the next 7 to 10 days, and the test can be repeated weekly for women who remain at high risk. A negative fetal fibronectin test gives a more than 95% likelihood of remaining undelivered for the next 2 weeks.[2] A systematic review of the medical literature found that fetal fibronectin is a good predictor of spontaneous preterm birth before cervical dilation.[3] The test may be run on patients between 22 and 35 weeks gestation.

So....the Dr. decided it would be best to send me across the building to the hospital while my fetal fibernectin swab was sent to the lab and admit me to the birthing center.  Off we went....I was quickly brought to my own room and hooked up to a monitor again.  I was more concerned about eating and had Jason go down to the cafe to hunt for food.  He returned with some of the best hospital food I have ever had....a flat bread turkey, cheese and roasted red pepper sandwich, chips and Italian wedding soup.

Anyways, we had a great nurse who kept coming in to check on me and monitored me from her desk across the hall.  Contractions were from 8 minutes to 16 minutes apart lasting 40-90 seconds long.  She pulled up another patients contractions down the hallway and they were every two minutes for 60 seconds long....that is real labor!

I wasn't even 1% convinced that I was even close to being in labor so when we received the fetal fibernectin results I wasn't surprised that they were negative.  SO, home we went.

The Dr. suggested I stop working this week.  So in true Gordon fashion I am being stubborn and not listening. I will actually work part time this coming week and see how things go and decide on the following week.

As I write this I am having contractions again but nothing to be concerned about, just braxton hicks.  I have an ultrasound, stress test and Dr. appointment again on Tuesday at 2:45 so we will see how things go :)
