Update...

It's been 8 months since I have posted....lots has happened on our fertility journey.  I'll keep it short and sweet....

After months of working with our NP here in Colorado Springs we were referred to a place in Denver called Colorado Center of Reproductive Medicine (CCRM).  After talking with other friends who have battled fertility I have learned that several children I know were conceived thanks to the help of the folks at CCRM, three of the four of these women were over 40 when they conceived!

We had a consult with the Doctor in April and I left wanting to do cartwheels down the hallway I was so excited.  I knew we were finally in the right place and if they couldn't help me probably no one could.  We had a meeting with the Doctor to discuss our past, review blood work and discuss what his plans were for us.  First thing we needed to do though was a baseline ultra sound.  We scheduled this for the following week and I would make the 62 mile drive north at 6am.

This appointment did not go very well, we found that one of the medications I was on INCREASES the size of cysts.  Having Poly cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and am very susceptible to cysts. We were told that I had a cyst the size of an Oreo...YES, an OREO! If it ruptured I could very likely loose one of my ovaries.  This was very scary to hear.  The Doctor put me on birth control for four months.  I freaked out...birth control!? That's not the direction I wanted to go in...I want a baby. People who are on birth control don't want babies! Well, birth control actually helps shrink cysts.  We did 4 months on birth control and one month with nothing.  The cysts were gone!

We were cleared to move forward in our fertility journey.  Everything happened very fast....ultra sounds, LOTS of blood work, LOTS of pills, hormone and trigger shots (thank you Jason!).  Before you knew it we were scheduled for an IUI.  (Google it if you don't know what it is!)

On September 30th we made that long drive to Denver. We were both excited, optimistic but cautious because we didn't want to expect it to work on the first try.  Our first appointment was at 9am, then the actual insemination was at 11am.  I had produced 3 eggs that cycle and Jason provided nearly twice the amount of what he needed to :)

The procedure was not very exciting, and nothing what I expected at all.  It was done in the matter of a minute and they said I could go.  It was so funny to think we could have just 'made' a baby and were off to Ikea and the Cheese Cake Factory.

The nurse told us to wait 2 weeks to do an at home pregnancy test, two weeks fell on October 14th which just so happened to also be Jason's 31st birthday! I couldn't wait that long to test so I went out and got a test that could detect pregnancy up to 6 days before your missed cycle.  I tested on Oct 10th at 5 am (I was excited and couldn't sleep!)....then again at 7am, 7:30am, and 7pm.  ALL POSITIVE !!!

I called CCRM to let them know I had a positive and they said to wait until October 14 to confirm.  Every day up until the 14th I tested...all positive. I had blood work done that Friday, then again on Monday and both results came back confirming I was pregnant. Now the next question we had was "HOW MANY?!"
My first ultra sound would reveal just how many eggs had fertilized.

I had my first ultra sound on Monday (October 31) and we saw ONE baby Gump. Not two, not three, JUST ONE!  I was measuring exactly what I was, 6 weeks, 3, days :) Everything looked healthy and my hormones came back through the roof.  The doctor has taken me off of two medications and I have two more to go which we will do the end of November.  I can't wait to not be a walking pharmacy!

Our next appointment for an ultra sound and meeting with the NP is November 17th.  This will be my last appointment with CCRM and the end to the long and very boring early morning trips to Denver.

We are cautiously excited, but everything looks to be going in the right direction for a successful pregnancy and baby Gump come June 2012.

Keep your fingers crossed, pray to whom ever you pray to....and send good vibes!
